Imagery is when you paint a picture for your readers using your words.
For example: It was a dark and stormy night. Or: It was a bright, sunny, warm day.

Chekhov's gun is where the writer subtly introduces an item, and then brings the item into use later in the story.
For example: He heard the twang of a bow string. a paragraph later. As he walked out of the log cabin, a girl on horseback flew by shooting targets and hitting every mark.
