Euphemism and Symbolism

Euphemism is when you take a word or expression substituted for one that is too harsh when you are referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing.
For example: I'm sorry your father passed away (instead of died) last week.

Symbolism is when you use o symbols to signify ideas and qualities, by giving them symbolic meanings that are different from their actual meaning. For example: A dove is a symbol of peace.
