Parallel Structure and Foreshadowing

A parallel structure is when a person takes a series of sentences and writes them in the in the same structure.

Example: When I'm getting ready for bed I brush my teeth, I put on my pajamas, and I get into bed.

Foreshadowing is when a person hints that something is going to happen before it actually does.

Example: As Alice looked into the mirror, something behind her moved. She turned and looked, but what ever it was, had disappeared. She shook her head back and forth to shake off the nerves and began brushing her hair while continuing to look in the mirror. The thing behind her moved again. Startled, she turned to look, and her little brother came tumbling out from under the bed, laughing.
